Norway

Norway is an aeternitas of the history of european integration that will have influence on the future of Europe. The name given by the inhabitants is KONGERIKET NORGE with the official national languages of Norwegian (belonging to the group of German family) spoken by the citizens who today live in the parliamentary Monarchy of Norway, together with the others European peoples speaking English and the minorities of Sami living in the Lapland region and speaking their original Sami dialects.

Norway is situated at far northern Europe over the Scandinavian Alps: it overlooks northward on the Glacial Arctic Sea, westward on the Norwegian Sea and southward on the North Sea where the Skagerrat channels separates from Denmark, while the eastern border is delimited by Sweden for thousands of kilometers up to Lapland where Norway confines with Finland and Russia. Other Norway soverainities are the Svalbard achipelago near the Arctic Pole and a slice of the Antarctic Pole, while the coasts are faced for all their extention by thousands of little islands or cliffs, whose biggest are the Lofoten and the Vesteralen achipelagos: the territory of Norway is completely mountainous modelled by the glaciations with hundreds of long bays or navigable fjords, often erupting point for numerous rivers coming down from the Alps, some of them almost long as the Glama or the Lagen, running along cascades and rapids useful to produce energy. So, Norway is rich of water (as well as oil too), especially within the unnumerables lakes along the rivers or at the low level of valleys, usually of glacial origin and ideal for human life. The climate is cold temperate with lighty and fresh short summers and rigid dark winters while the frequent precipitations are caused by the humidity from the Atlantic current and winds.

The history of Norway began with the settlements of Sami and Vikings peoples in Neolithic age (as you can read in this article), who had been followed along the ancient times by the ancient Norwegian tribe of Germans that in the I century A.D. moved from the Baltic Sea coasts. They formed the first reign of Vikings in I century B.C. ruled until 1319 A.D. by the Yngling dinasty, except for a short period when Norway has been included in the Christian Empire of the Danes (1028-1035 A.D.), fragmented in numerous jarl. When the norwegian royal dinasty estinguished, the country was joined to Kingdom of Sweden unitl 1380 A.D. under the Folkunga dinasty, then joined to the Kingdom of Denmark until 1397 A.D. when was instituted the Kalmar League of the Scandinavia states ruled by the Oldenburg. When the union failed in 1536 A.D. cause of the revolt of lutherans in Sweden, Norway remained joined to Denmark still dominating Iceland, Greenland, Orkney, Shetland and Faroe archipelagos. But at the end of the napoleonic epoch Norway was ceded to Sweden in 1814 A.D. and ruled by the french Bernadotte family.

Norway could become definitely independent in 1905 A.D. as Kingdom of Norway ruled by the last branch of the Oldenburg family, the Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg-Beck dinasty still on the throne. Today the state is administrate by counties (Oslo, Akershus, Ostfold, Buskerud, Vestfold, Telemark, Agder, Vestland, Rogaland, Innlandet, More og Romsdal, Trondelag, Nordland, Troms, Finnmark) and its capital is Oslo, while the oldest/biggest cities are Stavanger, Trondheim and Bergen built by Vikings. Norway is the only scandinavian country not member of European Union, then its currency is the Norwegian Krone.
